When it comes to video on the web, YouTube is the one-stop solution that immediately comes to our mind. We watch millions of hours of video each day with their service being delivered for over 80 countries around the world. It is the largest website on the Internet by page views after Google and Facebook.
Tips For A Better Youtube Experience
In this post, you will find a few YouTube tips that could be well worth your time. Some of them might be things you never imagined of. Let’s start.
1. Different Versions Of YouTube For Different Purposes
Do you want to use YouTube on your TV? Now you can. YouTube has a separate version that makes it easy to access the website using a simple remote.
Append /tv to the YouTube URL and hit enter. You will be greeted with a brand new look. It allows you to use keyboard commands to browse the site as well. So if you are that keyboard guy, you might be loving it.
You can also use /leanback to achieve the same result as it indicates the no mouse/trackpad UI.
And if you got to be a gamer in town, there is one for you as well. Head over to https://gaming.youtube.com/ to watch exclusive gameplays and other gaming related videos. It comes with a near black background as well (You know what I mean).
2. Video To Gif
Memes and Gifs have taken the Internet world by storm. Fueled by Social media, it has got to a point where Gifs are being used instead of emojis and stickers even in mobile chat applications. Recently, WhatsApp being the one to integrate Gif search and send feature in it’s beta app.
Even keyboard applications like Gboard allow to send gifs from keyboard itself if the app supports it.
If you want to share a video, it can even be as a gif. Just add the word gif to to the URL of the video before the word youtube and you would be redirected to gifs.com where you can edit the particular video.
They provide you easy links to share or embed the gifs. You can also download the gif by just creating an account with them.
3. Customize Your Video Embed
Have you ever embedded a YouTube video in any website/page? YouTube does allow you to show videos hosted on their platform anywhere else like in your own website without the need to download and upload again.
This is why you see youtube videos in other webites. But wait, this is not what I am telling about.
You can also customize your video starting and ending times. The embedded video can be made to start when you want it to and end at your own desired time as well.
This might be useful in cases where you only need to showcase a part of the video in order to make some point.
So, how do you do it? Grab the embed link as usual. You would get something like this below.
<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/8lspg7nMpdc” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
In the source attribute of the given text, append the following. ?start=<start_time>&end=<end_time>
Replace <start_time> with your desired starting time and <end_time> with your desired end time. Note that the start and end time should be in seconds.
<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/8lspg7nMpdc?start=45&end=145 ” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
4. Constrain EMBED Size
Embed video takes up the size according to the screen, but at times you may want to embed videos of specific sizes.
YouTube itself gives you an option that allows you select the size as per your need.
When you get the embed code, just below the embed code, there is Show More button that unlocks more features.
It also has an option to set video sizes for your video. You can choose among the predefined sizes or even choose a custom size of your own. Check out other options also which might help you more.
5. Bypass region/age restriction without logging in
Some videos might be restricted by region or sometimes might be based on the age. Certain videos might need you to login and verify your age and/or region.
Not necessary anymore. Now you can access such videos by just a small change of the URL.
The only thing you have to do is to, remove watch? and replace = with /, and hit enter. You will see that the restricted video starts playing.
[I am not using a restricted video here as the website is child friendly]
The video starts playing in full screen than like in a window.
Note: This is just a trick mentioned here. Not intended to harm anyone’s opinions.
These are the best tips for a better Youtube that you would have not known until now. There are more such times that I did not mention here.
